A Whisper for Your Heart

Sometimes we don't need an answer. Sometimes we need a few words that help us stay with the question.

Whispers are small invitations to pause.

A few words about awareness, feelings, choice, grief, love, healing, and becoming—not answers to what life asks of us, but something to sit beside us while we find our own.

The Whispers

Awareness

Awareness was never meant to be the finish line.

We can become incredibly aware of our patterns and still repeat them every day. We can know we make assumptions. Know we create stories from incomplete information. Know the things we tell ourselves aren’t always true. Know exactly how we react when something touches an old wound.

And then…do exactly what we’ve always done. Because awareness gives us the opportunity for change.

It doesn’t make the change for us. That’s where intention enters.

Once I notice the pattern, I can ask: Is this still how I want to move through the world?

Sometimes the answer will be yes. Not every pattern needs changing. Some have served us beautifully. Some still do.

Yet when the answer is no, we get another question: What would I like to choose instead?

And then comes perhaps the least glamorous part of growth: Practice.

Choosing differently once probably won’t undo something you’ve practiced for years.

So, we choose again. And forget. And notice. And choose again. And sometimes fall straight back into the familiar thing. Then notice again. That isn’t failure. That is the practice.

Eventually, something that once required tremendous intention begins to feel a little more natural. Until perhaps one day you realize…the thing you had to consciously choose has quietly become the way you live.

Feelings

Sometimes what we feel becomes what we believe. And those are not always the same thing.

Feeling rejected can quickly become I’m unwanted.
Feeling forgotten can become I don’t matter.
Feeling afraid can become I’m not safe.
Feeling left out can become I don’t belong.

The feeling itself is real. We don’t need to dismiss it, shame ourselves for having it, or hurry it away. Yet we can become curious about the story it is telling us.

Today, when a feeling rises, try asking:

What do I actually know?
And what am I assuming because of how I feel?

Sometimes the answer will confirm what you sensed. And sometimes it won’t. Either way, we don’t have to distrust ourselves. We’re simply learning to distinguish between feeling something and knowing something.

Honor the feeling.
Question the story.

Then give yourself enough room to discover what is actually true. ❤️

Choice

Perhaps the biggest thing I hope we carry forward is this: Healing doesn’t always make our choices easier. Sometimes it simply helps us recognize that we have one.

Practice pausing before reacting.

Look at what actually belongs on our side of the street.
Acknowledge some healing language sometimes skips over—sometimes every available choice carries a cost.

And give ourselves permission to choose again when life, experience, or new information teaches us something we didn’t know before.

None of that guarantees we’ll make the “right” choice.

Sometimes we make the best decision we can and still hurt.
Sometimes we choose something healthy and still grieve what it costs us.
Sometimes we choose poorly and learn something important.
Sometimes we change our minds.

And sometimes we finally become ready to make the choice we’ve known for a long time was waiting for us.

Maybe healing isn’t about becoming so wise that we never make another questionable choice. Maybe it’s about becoming conscious enough to ask: Why am I choosing this?

Fear?
Hope?
Love?
Habit?
Guilt?
Peace?

Am I choosing what I genuinely want? Or am I hoping my choice will finally make someone else choose differently?
There may not always be a perfect answer. Just enough honesty to recognize when the choice belongs to you.
